"...Dr. Walter Knight Stanton (known affectionately to colleagues as "W.K.") served as the Director of Music for the Midland Region of the BBC from 1937 to 1945.During his time with the BBC in the 1940s, his work was heavily shaped by wartime broadcasting requirements, regional orchestral management, and the preservation of British musical culture. Alongside his executive duties organizing broadcasts, Stanton regularly stepped onto the podium. He frequently conducted the BBC Midlands Orchestra, bringing classical, choral, and light orchestral music to listeners during World War II. Operating out of the BBC Midland Region (primarily based in Birmingham), Stanton was responsible for maintaining cultural morale through radio programs during the Blitz and the height of the war.."
