A Young Woman Holding a Doll (c. 1830) is an exquisite ukiyo-e woodblock print designed by Utagawa Kunisada (1786–1865), who was the most popular and commercially successful printmaker of 19th-century Edo-period Japan. Belonging to the celebrated genre of bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), this print captures a quiet, intimate moment of domestic leisure.

A fashionable young woman is depicted in three-quarter view, dressed in a voluminous, heavily layered kimono. Kunisada meticulously rendered the complex textile patterns, using fine block lines to contrast bold outer fabrics with delicate, web-like undergarments.  She gently cradles a traditional washi ningyo (a Japanese doll meticulously constructed from folded handmade paper).
