"....The world-famous poster Tournée du Chat Noir de Rodolphe Salis is a seminal 1896 Art Nouveau colour lithograph designed by Swiss-born artist Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen. Created to advertise the summer touring company of Paris's first modern avant-garde cabaret, Le Chat Noir, it remains an omnipresent symbol of bohemian Belle Époque culture. 

The poster features a stark, silhouetted black cat with an arched back and piercing, mysterious golden eyes. The sleek subject pays direct homage to the feline imagery adorning the walls of the Montmartre venue.  Framing the cat's head is an ornate, graphic halo. It features pseudo-religious text reading "Prochainement la Très Illustre Compagnie de la Tournée du Chat Noir" (Coming soon: The Most Illustrious Company of the Tour of the Black Cat). Steinlen utilized a minimalist yet aggressive palette of deep ink-black, rich crimson red, and warm ochre yellow. The hand-drawn lettering explicitly champions the cabaret's charismatic owner and master of ceremonies, Rodolphe Salis.."
