"...This celebrated mezzotint print by English master engraver Richard Earlom is based on the famous group portrait painted by Johann Zoffany RA.The detailed composition depicts the founding members of the Royal Academy of Arts gathered inside a candlelit studio to study a nude male model. Because women were historically barred from entering life-drawing classes, female founders Mary Moser and Angelica Kauffman are cleverly included as painted portraits hanging on the background wall.."
