CHAU1856  Antique 1950s hand signed letter from Elaine the secretary and personal assistant of historic BBC broadcaster and presenter Joan Gilbert on her official office headed paper with the letter written in full by her secretary Elaine about Joe in response to the TV times editor for their editorials (whose collection I am selling) which Elaine has personally signed too folded where posted (which is how I will send) otherwise excellent condition.  It details of the Gallery Hire. A rare souvenir to gain a piece of history from the historic offices and life of Joan Gilbert who just after this letter became awarded Television Personality Of The Year in 1951.

Joan Gilbert (11 August 1906 – 29 January 1991) was an English television broadcaster, editor, and journalist who became one of the first major household names and stars of early British television. She joined the BBC in 1933 as a shorthand typist. She quickly showed a natural talent for production, becoming the personal assistant and secretary for the popular radio show In Town Tonight. When domestic television broadcasting was temporarily shut down during World War II, Gilbert worked for the BBC Overseas Unit, presenting radio programmes to boost the morale of British troops stationed abroad.  When television returned in 1946, she was appointed editor-in-chief of Picture Page, a highly popular topical magazine programme. Unable to find the perfect on-camera host, she famously stepped into the role herself. Her unpredictable and lively interview style made her a massive celebrity.
