Ian Whyte Scottish WW2 BBC Orchestra Radio War Of Sibelius Hand Signed Letter
CHAU4760 A rare opportunity to secure this vintage 1939 wartime BBC letter from historic Scottish BBC wartime broadcaster and band leader Ian Whyte and famous for the rapport he created with the famous composer and the BBC during the war (see below). The letter is in reply to a Military Major who wanted Ian Whyte to play his personal rearrangements and scores he had sent him on the BBC war broadcasts (please enlarge scan to read its fascinating contents for your full examination) - It is folded just once where originally posted with two small file holes otherwise pristine condition.

In it, he expressed his deep gratitude to Ian Whyte and the "BBC Scottish Orchestra" for their exceptional readings and steadfast promotion of his symphonies during the dark days of the war. This historic acknowledgement laid the groundwork for a lasting tradition; the BBC SSO has continued to champion Sibelius's repertoire as a core part of its musical identity, notably through subsequent historic concert series like Osmo Vänskä's The Sibelius Experience cycle..."
