Guy Warrack Scotland BBC WW2 Military Scottish Orchestra Hand Signed Letter
CHAU4766 A rare opportunity to secure this private hand signed letter from Guy Warrack (6 February 1900 – 12 February 1986) historic Scottish composer, music educator and conductor. He was the son of John Warrack of the Leith steamship company and in the war years was the principal conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (which he helped found with fellow Scottish composer conductor Ian Whyte), leading over 1,500 broadcasts
This vintage 1940 official wartime letter from Guy Warrack on headed BBC paper was to a military Major with all about the compositions and private rearrangements from the Major but had rejected these for the immediate BBC broadcasts, which I invite you to enlarge and read. During World War II and the late 1940s, his curated broadcasts provided essential morale-boosting entertainment across the UK via the BBC Home Service. It is personally written typed and hand signed by Guy Warrack in mint condition. Please see all our historic musicians, big band, and conductors letters secured from this same BBC collection at our store.
"...During the Second World War Guy Warrack became a critical figure in keeping British musical life alive, conducting roughly 2,000 broadcast concerts and championing contemporary classical and "light music" over the airwaves. Warrack led the newly formed BBC Scottish Orchestra (today known as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra) through the height of the Blitz and World War II.."
"Warrack secured two musical effects that immediately put him in the front rank of documentary composers. To shots of the gutted steel shell of the Krupps Essen factory, the music gives great drama by musically reconstructing the air raid that originally destroyed the plant. Another scene shows a conversation between an S.S. man on the run and a British interrogation officer, done entirely by music, with no speech whatsoever. Both items were most effective".
