"..David Curry (1899–1971) was an outstanding Northern Irish violinist, conductor, and arranger who left a permanent mark on post-war broadcasting as the Conductor of the BBC Northern Ireland Light Orchestra.

During the 1930s and 1940s, Curry created and arranged Irish Rhythms, a highly distinctive series that reimagined traditional Irish folk music with unique orchestral flare. On 1 June 1949, Curry was officially appointed the principal conductor of the newly established BBC Northern Ireland Light Orchestra (which began with 21 musicians). Under his strict stewardship, the ensemble was a workhorse for the network, frequently broadcasting live up to four times a week. They were staples of popular daytime programs like Morning Music. hile famous for Irish folk arrangements, Curry ensured the orchestra was incredibly versatile, seamlessly shifting from Mozart arias to contemporary West End theatre and film selections.."
