Bishop Louis George Mylne 1876 Bombay Bishop India Old Hand Signed Autograph

CHAU4760 Antique 5.5" x 4" card bearing the genuine signature of Louis George Mylne (1843–1921), who served as the Anglican Bishop of Bombay under the British Raj from 1876 to 1897. In keeping with the centuries-old "episcopal" signing tradition practiced by senior colonial church leaders, the bishop signed using his initials combined directly with the official name of his diocese, styling it as L.G.Bombay.  This formal method of signing entirely replaced his surname on all high-level ecclesiastical correspondence, official land grants, pastoral letters, and ordination certificates during his 21-year tenure. This distinct, period-accurate formatting serves as an excellent verification of the document's authentic Victorian colonial origin. The autograph has been firmly affixed to the card so cannot be removed but in fairness the card has preserved the signing throughout time.  A little aged and perhaps mildly wrinkled but great condition.
