Emmeline Tanner Suffragette Style Womens Rights Brighton School Hand Signed Letter

CHAU2380 This is an antique 1933 letter from Roedean School from Emmeline Tanner written to Sinclair Logan who was a famous classical music composer who throughout his life trained and held musical concerts for the blind, and the letter is thanking the composer for an evening of music he had presented at the girls school for the pupils - Emmeline Tanner was a womans rights activist in eduction who was revolutionary in girls education of the pre war years before becoming headmistress of Roedean School and she has hand signed the letter - Please see my other letters sent to Charles Logan including mostly celebrities and other classical composers of the pre war years - It is folded once where posted and is in truly outstanding condition and you will never get a better opportunity of this womens rights activist and almost suffragette historical figure as it is on the schools headed paper she was headmistress of the 1930s.

She epitomised the values and attitudes, which formed developments in girls' education in England. Dame Emmeline Tanner started teaching at the age of 13 years, and the book examines the problems faced by a late-Victorian girl without money or the right connections. She was very interested in the new educational modes of the time, and the book tells of how she first experimented with ways and means, and the shaped one of the new secondary schools under the 1902 Education Act, guided it throughout her career, including chairing the Joint Four which dealt with problems arising from evacuation during the Second World War. By the time she became Headmistress of Roedean School, she was recognised as an influential leader of headmistresses and a champion of broadening the path.
