"...May Belfort gained notoriety by performing adult, erotic cabaret sets while dressed in childlike clothing. Lautrec captures her in a brilliant scarlet dress featuring oversized puff sleeves and a giant, ruffled baby bonnet (or mob cap). in the poster, she tightly cradles a black cat with a yellow bow. To create the deceptively simple yet striking composition, Lautrec used four separate lithographic stones to layer olive green, red, black, and yellow inks. He utilized a technique called crachis (splattering ink onto the stone) to add texture to the minimalist background.."
