Ms M Williams WW2 Blitz War Radio BBC Chicken Farm Eggs Hand Signed Letter

CHAU4958  Probably one of the most unique autograph opportunities of its kind.  This is a three page letter from Miss M. Williams dated 21st October 1941 who was a dedicated staff member who worked within the BBC’s archival and library divisions during World War II and the immediate post-war era, and part of a highly specialized group of wartime library professionals tasked with keeping the BBC's massive broadcasting machine running.

But what makes her totally unique was she also (alongside a colleague named Mrs D. Page) served as the primary, spare-time caretakers for a flock of 15 to 20 hens managed entirely by the BBC Registry staff. As the BBC shifted its operations and bases around the country to evade German bombing raids, Miss Williams and the registry team diligently transported the mobile poultry coop with them. The hens successfully transitioned from the lush parklands of an evacuated country manor house all the way to the rubble of a bombed-out site in London.

Through the height of strict wartime rationing, Miss Williams's dedication to the flock resulted in the production of between 8,000 and 9,000 eggs.

This vintage double page fold open fully hand written and signed letter by the historic librarian has some strong indents, tiny tears so graded fair to good and please allow but a completely unique BBC souvenir.
