"...Bertram Walton O'Donnell (often credited simply as B. Walton O'Donnell) was a highly prominent British conductor and composer who was deeply intertwined with BBC broadcasting and orchestral leadership leading up to and during the 1930s and 1940s.His most historic executive achievement at the corporation was serving as the founding director and conductor of the BBC Military Band, which he led from its inception in 1927 until 1937. Under his baton, the band became one of the most elite, highly disciplined, and widely listened-to live broadcast ensembles in the UK.

In 1937, O'Donnell stepped down from the Military Band to move into regional BBC management, becoming the BBC Music Director for Northern Ireland based in Belfast. He held this influential leadership role until his sudden death in 1939.
