In fact, they are more than that. For most of the 1960s, Hopper was a Hollywood outsider with a reputation as a troublemaker and a rebel. He had appeared in Rebel Without a Cause with his close friend James Dean in 1955, but had subsequently been consigned to one too many supporting roles. What he really wanted to do was direct films that flew in the face of Hollywood convention - something he achieved, to a degree, with 1969's Easy Rider, which ushered in a new era of vibrant independent film-making in America.From 1961 to 1967, though, Hopper made photographs as if his life depended on it. In the vividly impressionistic introduction to Out of the Sixties - his first book of photographs, published in 1986 - Hopper wrote: "I never made a cent from these photos. They cost me money but kept me alive They were the only creative outlet I had for these years until Easy Rider. His first published photograph shows a street demonstration on Bastille Day 1936 and he maintained a lifelong commitment to leftist causes. Despite the political intent with which Ronis' career began, he is best remembered for his romanticised vision of Paris and its inhabitants. He preferred to walk around his local area of Belleville-MÔøΩnilmontant with camera in hand rather than travel. Ronis described the spontaneity of this approach, saying, most of my photographs were taken on the spur of the moment, very quickly, just as they occurred'. Whilst this aligns Ronis' work with the decisive moment' of his friend, Cartier-Bresson, whereas the latter's photography maintained the distanced gaze of the street photographer 'par excellence', the former's is coloured by the intimacy and empathy with which he knew and understood the people of Paris.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0965/3216/9030/files/willy-ronis-tour-eiffel-la-packard-1948-rapho-agency-award-photo-art-postcard-91457-p.jpg?v=1773407373
alfred-geschelt-from-dauman-pictures-dog-cat-in-window-rpc-usa-photo-postcard
Alfred Geschelt from Dauman Pictures Dog & Cat In Window RPC USA Photo Postcard
<font rwr="1" size="4" style="font-family: Arial;
